Seed Essences are made in exactly the same way as flower remedies: a glass bowl of water is placed under the sky on a sunny day and the chosen seeds are floated on the water. The bowl and seeds are left under the Sun for approximately three hours. This process of capturing the essence of the seed is called solarisation and was pioneered by Dr. Edward Bach in the 1930s. It is still the preferred method of making nature’s vibrational remedies for the vast majority of producers.
The idea of making remedies from seeds goes back some twenty years. I was walking through the woods with one of my sons who was about 10 years old at the time. As we past a bush full of haw berries, he asked me whether remedies could be made from seeds as well as flowers. Such a big question from a small person! Each seed having an individual use, just like a flower essence - far too big to contemplate.
However, the thought remained with me and I have always remembered that question. Over 20 years later the pieces of the jigsaw fell into place and I understood how to work with seed essences. Seed essences connect us to our own Inner Seed, that part of us that possesses the same or similar qualities to seeds, acts like a seed, in essence makes us grow and develop. So my approach is to consider seed essences having much more specific uses than flower remedies.
I have classified the therapeutic uses of seed essences under only seven headings, based on the various aspects and symbolism associated with seeds. When you read them you will see how powerful and relevant these issues are, reflecting the importance of the seed within our own being. Seed essences stimulate facets of our being by reconnecting us to our own Inner Seed.
